This part of the plan got changed due to some unforeseen circumstances and skipped Zambia and Cairo for maybe next time. Heading back home today.
Waking up late on my final morning in Masai Mara, I stepped outside my hut with a warm cup of tea, greeted by the soft chirping of birds. Today, there seemed to be more of them, almost as if they had gathered to say their goodbyes. The peacefulness of the moment, with the crisp morning air and the golden sunlight filtering through the trees, made it hard to believe that my adventure was coming to an end.
After packing the last of my belongings and enjoying a quick breakfast, I picked up a few souvenirs from the resort shop—small keepsakes to hold onto the memories of this incredible journey. With my bags loaded into the Land Cruiser, it was time to head out, making one last stop at a Masai tribal village before leaving the Mara.
Just outside the resort gate, I was met by a beautiful sight—a tower of giraffes, gracefully moving across the landscape. Their elegance and gentle nature made for a perfect farewell from the wild. Exiting the reserve, I was instantly surrounded by Masai women, eager to sell their handcrafted souvenirs, their colorful beadwork and fabrics reflecting the vibrant spirit of their culture.

A Cultural Encounter: The Masai Tribal Village
Upon arriving at the Masai tribal village, I was warmly welcomed by the locals. My guide placed a lion skin hat on my head, and another villager played a deep, soulful tune on an animal horn, marking my arrival. Soon, the welcome song and dance began, with the warriors, men, and women moving rhythmically to the beat. I couldn’t resist joining in, even if just for a moment—an experience that felt both humbling and exhilarating.
Next came the famous Masai jumping dance, a test of strength where warriors compete to see who can jump the highest. In Masai tradition, the higher a warrior jumps, the more admiration he gains, especially from the women. The energy of the dance was contagious, their movements full of pride and tradition.
Walking through the village, my guide shared insights into Masai life—how the women build the huts, how the men hunt, and how each wife has her own home within the village.
I stepped inside a traditional hut, experiencing firsthand the simplicity of their daily life, from fire-making to cooking in tiny spaces. It was a rare and intimate glimpse into a way of life so different from my own, yet deeply rooted in history and resilience.
With a final goodbye to the Masai people, I resumed my journey towards Narok, carrying with me a newfound appreciation for this incredible culture.
Contrary to what I had heard about the bumpy roads from Mara to Narok, I found the drive smooth and enjoyable, thanks to the newly built highways. Along the way, we made a quick stop at the Sandgrouse Restaurant and Curio Shops in Aewasongiro town, where my guide grabbed breakfast while I stretched my legs and browsed through local handmade souvenirs.
Reaching Narok, we took another short break before continuing our drive. The town was bustling with safari vehicles, much like a busy Indian city, a reminder that this journey was nearing its final stretch.
As we crossed the Great Rift Valley viewpoint—the same breathtaking spot I had admired on Day 1—I felt a wave of nostalgia. The sweeping landscape, with its vast openness and rugged beauty, was just as mesmerizing as when I first saw it.

Heading into Nairobi, I asked Charles, to stop for a late lunch before reaching the airport. We chose a mall in the city center, where I enjoyed a quick meal and a leisurely coffee, soaking in the last moments of my time in Kenya. Charles had been more than just a guide—he had been a great companion, full of knowledge, humor, and patience throughout the trip. Saying goodbye to him felt like bidding farewell to a friend.
Later Charles dropped me at the airport. After a couple of hours at the airport, navigating through immigration and security, I finally found myself at the boarding gate, reflecting on the incredible journey I had just experienced. From the thrilling safaris and wildlife encounters to the cultural discoveries and breathtaking landscapes, every moment in Kenya had been unforgettable.
As I waited to board my flight home, one thought stayed with me—this wasn’t just a trip, it was an experience that would stay with me forever. And who knows? Maybe someday, I’ll return to Masai Mara, hoping to see that elusive big cat that had evaded me this time.
Until next time, Kwaheri!
