Hong Kong—where towering skyscrapers meet vibrant street markets, and modernity blends seamlessly with tradition. Though my visit was primarily for work, I made sure to steal moments to explore the bustling markets, iconic harbor, and lively streets.
As the plane descended towards Hong Kong, I was treated to breathtaking aerial views. Some patterns in the clouds were amazing and looked like smoke explosions.
The South China Sea shimmered under the golden sunlight, dotted with tiny fishing boats and massive cargo ships. The green peaks of Lantau Island emerged through wispy clouds, offering a stunning contrast against the urban skyline that slowly came into view.
Skyscrapers lined the coastline, standing tall and majestic, while Victoria Harbour sparkled in the distance, welcoming me to this vibrant city.

Landing in Hong Kong, the efficiency of the airport and transportation system immediately stood out. I took a bus to the hotel on the Lantau Island.
As I had arrived late in the day, I had the evening to myself and after checkin in I went out to experience the local streets and culture.
Next morning my colleague met me at the hotel for breakfast for a discussion on work and then we took the tram to the victoria harbour where my office is for my meetings. The city’s financial district was a fast-paced world of glass towers and suited professionals. The office being on the higher floors provided a beautiful view of the surrounding buildings and the harbour.
Later in the evening once work wrapped up for the day we explored the streets in the business district on foot soaking in the vibrant and humble culture of Hong Kong.
As the sun set, I walked along Victoria Harbour, enjoying the Symphony of Lights show—a dazzling display illuminating the skyline. I ended the night at a cha chaan teng, indulging in Hong Kong-style milk tea and pineapple buns, feeling the city’s charm sink in.

The next morning was again dedicated to meetings, but by the afternoon, I was free to explore. I wandered through Langham Place and other local Markets.
Later I took a tram to Temple Street Night Market. The vibrant stalls, neon lights, and scent of street food made it an immersive experience. I tried stinky tofu, dim sum, and a refreshing glass of sugarcane juice while bargaining for souvenirs.
With a late flight, I had the morning to spare so visited some colleagues who were placed at the cathay Pacific office. From the office I admired the incredible views of the airport and Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride in Hong Kong that offers views of Lantau Island’s landscapes, including the Big Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, and Ngong Ping Village. The ride is considered one of the world’s best cable car views..
Before heading to the airport, I squeezed in a quick ferry ride on the Star Ferry—a nostalgic and picturesque way to bid farewell to this dynamic city.
As the flight took off the sun was setting and the sky was glistening with the most beautiful pink and golden hues. Watching the skyline fade in the distance, I felt grateful for this brief yet enriching adventure.
Hong Kong is more than just a financial hub—it’s a city bursting with culture, history, and flavors. Even on a work trip, it’s possible to dive into its vibrant streets, savor its street food, and experience its unique energy. Until next time!
