After saying goodbye to Reykjavík, it was a day to hunt for the famous falls of southern Iceland. On the way we stopped at a lookout point overlooking town of Sudurland and the view from hills was just spectacular.
The data on the phone wouldn’t work and the rain wouldn’t stop. After doing few tricks the phone finally began and luck accompanied us as rain also stopped.

Reached Seljalandsfoss, a fall which falls from so high that your neck will have a sprain to see the source. A walk behind this fall was something new for us and while drenched in the showers from the fall we were surprised by the nature’s another wonder … a rainbow.
Few hundred meters from here was a fall hidden from the plain sight. No wonder it is called Gijufrabui falls which literally means ‘the hidden falls’. Even while falling gracefully from a height it shies away and you have to make an effort to see it by crossing a stream and going in a wet canyon. On the way back Neha named a fall ‘Litli foss’ just because it was cute and small.
After a quick packed lunch we left towards Solheimajokulsvegur (don’t even try to pronounce it). This was just a little hello to first of the two glaciers that we will be seeing in this trip. Evening was drawing fast so we headed to the final destination of the day skógafoss fall and hotel.

We have a room with a view of the falls. After checking in we walked towards the fall and met an old French photographer, Philip, who has visited India 12 times and seen India from top to bottom. After a few pictures and poses Neha returned back to the hotel. My eyes were on the observation deck on the mountain side of the falls up on the hill. The view of the falls, hundreds of grazing sheep and the valley beneath was a sensational view from the top. Well worth the 384 steps I climbed.
Today’s drive towards the Southern Iceland had us marvelling at a fantastic variety of landscapes; Moss covered mountains, farms with horses and sheep running wild, miles of green pastures, waterfalls, glacier and a seemingly endless horizon !!
