The day started again with rain shower and we were feeling under the weather because of continuous rain. Had breakfast and left for the way back to keflavik, the final day of the trip.
It was a long drive and we had kept few points which were important as well as to take a break. We had driven only few miles when sun started shining brightly and remained with us throughout the day. We ended up having few extra stops because of lots of lava moss, glacier horses, glacier cows, glacier sheep and glacier itself :-)
Our first planned stop of the day was geothermal mud pots near Grendavik. The smell of sulphur was so high that it was unbearable. The sulphur has cut the rocks and has given different shapes and shades to the stone.
The drive to the keflavik airport was through the south west coast of Iceland and we had sea at 100 meters away from the road almost throughout the way. We stopper at a restaurant with a view just on the beach for a coffee and had the coffee on the deck of it. It was a nice feeling being at the shore of the north atlantic ocean.
Had lunch at the Grendavik town and headed to our next destination – the point where two continents separate. The tactonic plates of two continents Europe and America are saparated at this point by a ridge and there is a bridge which joins them. So at one moment you are standing in Europe and ten steps away you are standing in America. It was fun and ofcourse a very good feeling.
Now being there and done that several things there was one last major activity left of the trip. This is one of the great reasons why people know iceland and why they come to it. The Blue Lagoon !! Usually people do it as the first activity after landing at the airport because this is near to airport but we had kept it as our grand finale.
After checking in at the hotel near airport we spent some time sorting the stuff from the car and cleaning the car. The blue rental company charges thousands of ISK for every minor anomaly they see in the car. So after cleaning the car we headed for the blue lagoon.
The place is an out of the world experience. The water is aqua blue in colour and looks beautiful. Its just right temperature for the body to feel good. Its very rich in minerals and does many good things to the body….. and soul. All the tiredness was gone in few minutes after entering in the water. They give a complimentary algae & silica mud face pack which gives all the good things of rich water on facial Skin. We ended up spending almost an hour in the warm water and then after shower and change of clothes we got the dinner packed and left blue lagoon.
We needed to give back the full tank car return to the rental company. They charge four times of the actual price if the petrol is less than what they gave. Google played us and made us roam around in the city for full ten minutes before we reached a real petrol pump that was open. Finally we got the tank full and went back to the hotel to have a content sleep.
