As they say any amount of preparation is not enough, we faced the same… Had read that the train comes form airport to S.Lucia station but found out that only bus comes from there… Well, took the bus to station near the hotel and that actually turned out to be nice… And then Google also had goofed up on us giving wrong directions to hotel but friendly street vendor pointed at the right lane.. Later we relied on a 3 euro map than on Google as my expedition to explore Venice on foot started.. Took the long route exploring back streets, local markets & shops to Rialto bridge and then to the area near the San Marco piazza.. We got to see the every possible size, color and quality of Venetian mask. Gondolas were the perfect eye candy to the camera and gave a nostalgic feeling of childhood memories of seeing Venice in books, pictures and movies.

Second day the body clock made us an early riser. Decided to take an early stroll of the surrounding area… It was a beautiful morning. The lamp posts and the bridge of Santa Lucia station looked historic and stunningly beautiful. Venice as in whole, we observed is a pet friendly city. We saw people carrying their dogs everywhere. They take them to water taxis, hotels, and even the restaurants while having lunch and dinner. Reminded us of our little Caesar….
Well… After breakfast we left for a trip to Murano and Burano island around 9. Taking a full day pass to the water taxi was the best decision of the day. Seeing the efficiency of water traffic for local transport was amazing. Water ambulance , water police, water crane.. It was a different world. Met one American professor on the way. He had been to India eight times and had seen India much more than we had seen in all the years living there. At Murano the art of Glass blowing was an awesome experience. The small town is full of glass masters in their shops making small memorabilia.
Though we had decided to skip the visit to Torcello island but on the way to Burano we by mistake got off at Torcello. Saw a very beautiful jelly fish, few healthy goats and very healthy cats :-)… Visit to Burano was another experience. We were amazed by the brightly colored houses around the canal. The whole town looked out of a color book of a kid brightly colored in various colors… Lace work was also impressive but the colourful city was much more attractive to a photographer’s eye…
Enjoy some of the pics from our Venice trip.
