As awesome it seems in the various videos that you see before coming to the safari, a full day safari requires a lot of agility and fitness…
Traveling across the mara plains from 7 in the morning to 6 in evening is not a pleasant thing (other than the sightings) with the bumpy rides in the mara grasslands, crossing small wetlands where even the strong 4×4 can also get stuck and over the mounds which come up suddenly, your back takes a toll.
The day’s game drive started with us sighting some of the commonly found animals here. Gazelles playfully fighting and Zebras grazing against the sun was a sight to breathe in.
Further up I came across the same lion pride from yesterday with the cubs who were eating a recent kill. It was in an off road area… where you are not supposed to go but who listens. The 10 odd vehicles seeing that kill were soon chased off by the rangers who fortunately did not fine us. We decided to first cover the Sand River towards Tanzania to see if any wildebeest crossings were happening there but there were not many zebras or wildebeest.
I saw an Ostrich and then down the hill a lone Hyena targeting an injured Wildebeest . We lost sight of it as we wandered looking for other animals.

Moving along I saw a big heard of wildebeest in the distance. They were heading back to Tanzania side to their home in Serengeti national park. We kept moving along the river for over an hour but could not sight even a single wildebeest heard trying to make a river crossing.
This dream seems a washout as lot of people we met were saying they have not been able to come across any crossings across Mara river. I was a bit disappointed but such is the nature of the safari.. You cant dictate what you want to see.
We travelled a long way towards the river, up the lookout hill and the across the plains but it seemed all animals were hiding due to the sun. Even there were no close encounters with elephants or lions which are supposedly common.
The sun was a bit hot today and I wasn’t also up to mark health wise. So I rested a bit under the picnic tree, and then had lunch.
After that I continued on on the bumpy road across the plains looking for more animals. Some more Zebras, wildebeest, Warthogs and various kind of gazelle were found but no big cats.
I decided to head back to the resort and rest a while than waste time here.
Towards the last stretch near the resort we heard on radio that the Cheetah and her four cubs were resting under some bushes. We raced here and had a glimpse of the 3 of the 4 cubs and the mom. Seeing the Cheetahs is always nice as they are the most timid of the big cats.
After saying bye to then I headed back to the hotel and took a much needed nap and rested for tomorrow.
