Today was like a fairy tale day. To sum it up.. scenic drives, glacier, visit to world famous glacier lagoon and playing with diamonds (yup !!!).
After having a hearty breakfast at our hotel (when i say hearty i mean it very well.. three servings for asit and two for me) we headed for a drive to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The drive was for one hour 11 min and we were supposed to stop only once but it took us more than 2 hours to reach and we stopped at least five times. The scenery was just so beautiful that we couldn’t stop admiring although we were worried that we may miss our ride at the lagoon.

Managed to reach just in time and we got in to the ride. The ride in the lagoon is a amphibian boat which took us around and in the lagoon. The guide on the boat – Anna was a sweet chatty girl and driver Olive was huge icelandic fellow.
The lagoon is full of seals, sea gulls and icebergs. Terqoise blue colour of the icebergs is really magical and the reason of their colour we learnt is that the ice absorbs all colours but blue and that is what reflects back. All clouds touching down the lagoon and boat moving gradually around them was out of the world feeling. It was as if we are a part of some thriller movie. Anna on the boat showed us a small part of the glacier ice rock and let us hold it and even taste it :-)
After the boat ride we walked towards the diamond beach. The diamond beach, as the name states, has diamonds on it. The diamonds are nothing but part of icebergs from the lagoon which float towards the sea and wash on the shore. They look like crystal glass or diamonds in the sun light. You can see them in all different shapes and sizes and just cant stop admiring nature.
The visit to diamond beach was our special plan for our special day and we enjoyed every minute of it. We had all the shots that we had planned for and all the spontaneous selfies.
With freezing hands and nose we came back to the car and saw one van selling hot dogs. Went running there smelling something hot and greasy and had our lunch. Icelandic hot dogs are yummmm !!

It was time to head to the hotel which was in the middle of nowhere. We had booked a hut but they upgraded us to a bigger room with a splendid view of the lake which was just behind the guest house.
The rest of the day is at leisure. Its our special day and champaign is in tow.
